Essex Young Singers

The Essex Young Singers is the flagship vocal group for the Essex County Music Service. EYS is a talented SATB choir with a broad repertoire encompassing a wide variety of musical genres, including spirituals, folk songs, items from popular musicals, madrigals and partsongs. They also have a growing and impressive repertoire of standard and less well known works from the sacred choral canon. In addition to performing in joint concerts with the younger Essex Music Service choirs during October and February half terms, EYS undertake a summer holiday Cathedral tour. To date these tours have included Evensong and lunchtime concerts at the cathedrals of Bury St Edmunds, Ely and Chelmsford and Wymondham Abbey.

Since the group was created in 2006, EYS has been invited to participate in events with community choirs in the County on a regular basis. Appearances have included Orff’s Carmina Burana (Essex Musical Association, Thaxted 2006, Harlow Chorus, Harlow 2011), Barnes’ Thaxted Te Deum (Witham & Dovercourt Choral Societies, Coggeshall 2010), Britten’s St Nicholas (The Meljon Singers, Chelmsford 2009), Brahms’ Requiem (The Meljon Singers, Chelmsford Cathedral 2011).

Conductors: Janette Ruocco & Simon Warne
Accompanist: Simon Harvey
