A very warm welcome return to this local art group who have been displaying their works annually in the Cathedral for many years now.

The South Liverpool Arts Group meet weekly in Chaloner Hall in the grounds of St Austin’s in Grassendale, South Liverpool.

The Group, which is a registered Charity, has been in being for some 32 years having started in association with the Garston Carnival in 1978 and going from strength to strength to become, in the words of the previous late Chairman Allen Heyes, ‘the Premier Art Group in the North West’

The membership comprises amateur artists, active in all mediums, living in the South Liverpool area and who have more than a passing interest in art.

Meetings are held each Tuesday evening throughout the year where talks are given by guest speakers, as well as demonstrations in the use of materials and techniques given by professional artists. Also held are Still Life ‘workshops’ and portrait sessions plus ‘Do It Yourself’ evenings at which members sort out each other’s technical problems.

All of this takes place in an extremely congenial atmosphere, which contributes greatly to the continuing success of the Group.

The Group holds two major exhibitions each year - the Anglican Cathedral and the Coach House Calderstones Park - where each member, regardless of ability, is able to display their work to the general public.

The highlight of these two locations is the Anglican Cathedral. The next one is to be held on the 30th July to the 13th August inclusive from 9.00am to 5.00pm each day and promises to be another success since the quality of the work improves year on year. The exhibition has been formally opened most years in the past by the Lord Mayor at a Preview Evening and we anticipate the same in 2011.
