‘The Soldiers Story’ Part One • Portrait Of Wilfred Owen

Visiting

War Memorial Chapel
02nd - 27th November 2011
08:00 - 18:00 (each day)

This event will see the unveiling and display of the first piece of work in a new project by Anthony & Lorraine Brown, ‘The Soldiers Story’ - The Portrait Of Wilfred Owen. (Wilfred Edward Salter Owen MC (18 March 1893 – 4 November 1918)

This stunning 56” (143cm) x 36” (91.5cm) portrait is created in Anthony’s unique (100 Heads) style and outsizes a collection of memorabilia, photographs and, poignantly, Wilfred Owen’s own hand written poems and letters which form the backdrop of an oil painting detailing a ‘diary’ of life and presents a honest, brave and powerful view of the enormity of war and the consequences that ripple toward every Man, Woman & Child.

This lone voice multiplies into millions as it echoes into present day, leading the way into a large scale multi-media exhibition that will feature painting, sculpture, film and word - a monument to faith, loyalty, remembrance and respect built with the contribution and words of those that know and live with the truth, ‘The Soldiers Story’.

This exhibition is dedicated to and in tribute of our armed forces and the courageous, selfless sacrifice that shrouds them, aiming to inspire all senses as it involves the viewer in its thread ; From childhood to Veteran, from Action to Reaction, from Home to the World and back again. It will be at least two years in the making and will ultimately be displayed across the United Kingdom.

Wilfred Owen, from the dreams and aspirations of youth to his turmoil and glorious poetry, gallantry and supreme skill & bravery as a soldier, has inspired countless numbers in their own quest for understanding whilst liberating their thoughts and reflecting their emotions.

He is the logical foundation stone of this exhibition and The War Memorial Chapel of Liverpool Cathedral is the natural and fitting beginning of its journey.
