The City of Liverpool, the home of the largest number of UK museums, galleries and theatres outside London has been awarded the prestigious Coach Friendly award from the Confederation of Passenger Transport UK.

Simon Posner, Chief Executive at CPT announcing that Liverpool is officially Coach Friendly said:

 “It is with great pleasure that we are awarding this to the City of Liverpool. As a premier tourist destination, with two cathedrals, two premiership football clubs, the Grand National and the Liverpool One leisure and shopping experience, the city has shown an exemplary and growing welcome to coaches and their passengers over recent years. This has helped them secure CPT’s prestigious Coach Friendly Award for 2011.

“Led by Councillor Claire Wilner, Assistant Cabinet Member for Leisure & Tourism, the city presented an expansive bid to CPT on 22 November in Liverpool. CPT was impressed with what had been achieved already through a well considered strategy aimed at increasing coach visitors to the city. Increases in drop off / pick up bays, parking bays and the introduction of two coach welcome schemes at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral and the Albert Dock was just part of this strategy. 

“Just as impressive was the appetite for further activity in growing this market still further. Following further consideration of how Liverpool plans to continue efforts to improve facilities for coaches and their passengers through the Liverpool Coach Tourism Working Group Partnership, CPT was in no doubt that the city should be a worthy holder of the Coach Friendly award.”

 The award will now be presented formally to Liverpool City partners at the CPT NW Dinner Dance on Saturday 14 January 2012 at the Southport Floral Hall where around 200 members of the industry will be joining together for a social evening of fun and celebration.
