The process for discerning the next Dean of Liverpool has begun with a selection panel under the Chair of David Tomkins being established. An advertisement for "an exceptionally creative priest" has been placed in the Church Press.
Below is an open letter from the Panel Chair
Dear Members of the Cathedral Community
You will be aware we are in the process of discerning who may be called to be the next Dean of Liverpool. I write to you as the chair of the panel undertaking this task to outline some elements of the process we will follow and to introduce my fellow panel members working towards this task.
The Selection Panel is made up of:
Mr. David Tomkins (Chair)
The Revd Canon Joanne Grenfell (Nominated by the Archbishop of Canterbury)
The Rt Revd James Jones (Bishop of Liverpool)
Mrs Val Jackson (Nominated by the Bishops Council)
Sir Paul Britton (Prime Ministers Appointments Secretary)
Ms Caroline Boddington (Archbishops’ Secretary for Appointments)
(The Secretaries are non-voting)
We recently met as a panel for the first time and I wish to thank all of you who have, in various ways, contributed your thoughts and opinions for our consideration.
The post is currently advertised in the Church Times and Church of England Newspaper with further information available on the Church of England Website. We meet again in the middle of December to reflect upon those applications we receive and to decide upon those who we shall meet to better discern if they may be called to be the next Dean of Liverpool. Interviews for the post will be held in the middle of January and I hope we will, at this time, be able to nominate a suitable candidate to the Crown.
I hope you will keep us, the Cathedral and the Diocese in your prayers as we undertake the task we have been given. We shall be doing the same.
Yours Sincerely
David Tomkins
