17:30

A candlelit service for the first Sunday of Advent, celebrating the light which Christ brings into the world. Choir and clergy move in procession from ‘darkness to light’.

Our spectacular service marks the beginning of the Advent season, starts in the Well at the west end of the Cathedral with the whole Cathedral in total darkness. As the choral procession slowly makes its way towards the east end of the Cathedral, accompanied by music, the Cathedral is gradually lit. The whole building is completely bathed in light when the procession finally reaches the east end and the altar.
