Begin by entering our newly built film theatre for a 10 minute panoramic film shot in High Definition (HD) on a screen that fills your field of vision. Immerse yourself in the story of its building then feel the exhilaration and wonder of ‘flying through its glorious high spaces. The film contains ‘never seen before’ archive material of fascination to local historians and visitors alike, and beautifully shot aerial footage of Liverpool. A great taster both of the city and to the Cathedral itself.
Your host will then give you all the simple instructions you need to use your headphones and audio set to go on the tour. The tour is available in both adult and child format so that families can enjoy and appreciate this wonderful place in their own way. Far from being a continuous stream of words, the tour has music and anecdote, pointers and pauses – all designed to enhance your experience of the Cathedral by bringing to life its architecture, history and art, its people and purpose.
En route there are 3 computer interactive stations: each has a theme and adds depth and life to your experience – whether its your chance to see the building rise under your hands, compare Liverpool Cathedral to other famous Cathedrals around the world, take a magnifying glass to its inaccessible architectural features or watch a short piece of film about its people (as you’ve never seen them before!) – you’ll be able to see, hear, learn and interact with us at your pace. On hand, of course, are our trusty guides – mines of information – who can answer any questions you may have on your way, and ready at the end of your tour to take you to the places it hasn’t reached!
At the end of your tour, you’re in for a treat! The grand finale, for those able to climb the stairs, is to be rewarded with a stunning view of the Cathedral and closeness to its magnificent Benedicite window. Put on your headphones and immerse yourself in the music of the choir and the Cathedral’s world famous organ. An uplifting experience not to be missed.
This project was part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (through Objective One).
