The Lay Clerks of Liverpool Cathedral consist of the twelve gentlemen of the choir : four counter-tenors, four tenors and four basses. They sing for the Choral Eucharist on Sunday mornings, Evensong on Sunday afternoons and Evensong on Saturday afternoons and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. In addition to this they sing for numerous special services and concerts with the boys and girls of the Cathedral Choir. As well as singing with the full choir of boys or girls, the layclerks regularly sing mens' voices services. They are supported by a number of deputies.
If you are interested in becoming a Lay Clerk or a Deputy then please contact the Music Office (closed on Wednesdays each week) for further information.
Formerly known as the "Occasional Singers", the Cathedral enjoys the musicianship and service of this mixed voice adult choir, providing music and worship at services like Midnight Eucharist on Christmas Eve, the Duruflé Requiem for All Souls, and joining forces with the main Cathedral Choir on some of the biggest occasions. In addition, the Chamber Choir performs at concerts in the Cathedral such as Handel's 'Messiah', Bach's 'St John Passion', and Vivaldi's 'Gloria'.
