Ways of Giving
The Cathedral relies on all sorts of people for a wide range of assistance. Some people pray for our ministry, some volunteer in a very wide range of activities, the Congregation join us for worship and some are able to make financial donations. This page is particularly about financial donations. If you have any queries at all, please contact the Fundraising Office during office hours on 0151 702 7226
If you would like to support the Cathedral by making a donation of money or shares or tax you have paid, we would be very glad. Our Fundraising Office is open during business hours every week and we would be delighted to talk with you about any gift you might be able to make. Whether it might be a one off gift, or setting up a regular gift, we can help with advice and with appropriate forms. We will also be able to help ensure that any such gift is made as tax efficiently as possible – not just for our sake, but for yours too.
We are always happy to receive financial gifts and if you wish to make one, a cheque should be made out to Liverpool Cathedral Centenary Fund. If you are able to call us first, we will help to ensure that the value of the gift is tax efficient for you and for the Cathedral.
Gift Aid
For instance, if you pay tax in the UK, and you are a UK citizen, and your tax payments are at least as large as your gift to us, then by making the donation using Gift Aid it will be worth at least 28% more to us. If you would like to know more about tax effective giving, please do get in contact!
Shares and Traded Funds
We are also able and would be delighted to accept gifts of shares in companies or funds traded on any recognized stock exchange. And there are benefits available to the donor too. Under present Inland Revenue rules, if you make such donations, you receive relief from Income Tax in that year to the amount of the gift. Additionally, as you personally will not be realizing any capital gain on the shares, the Inland Revenue will give Capital Gains Tax Relief too. Please telephone us or write to us to discuss this type of gift.
Self Assessment Tax Returns
If you make your own Tax Returns under the Self Assessment procedures, and you find that you have overpaid your tax, you can choose to donate the tax to a charity instead of reclaiming it. To do this, you just need to elect to claim the repayment at Q.19 on the form and then to opt to have our Centenary Fund as the beneficiary instead of yourself by including our charity identifier DAL68KG at Q.19A on the form. We would be happy to explain more, or to talk you through this if you contact us.
Bequests
Making a will is straightforward and if you have a will written then friends and family can be sure what a loved one's intentions are - helping avoid any misunderstandings. A will ensures your wishes are honoured and can be financially comforting to those people close to you. Perhaps you will consider giving a gift to Liverpool Cathedral, a special gift like this can really make a difference to the future of this magnificent building and this eclectic community. Please do get in contact if you are thinking of leaving a gift in this way.
Online Giving
And if you would like to make an online donation right now, you can do.
Whichever way you chose to support, it really is welcome! Thank you.
