Auditions
Every year, the Cathedral auditions boys and girls for prospective chorister places, looking to select keen, bright individuals with a good level of general intelligence, the beginnings of a voice, and some evidence of innate musical ability.
Unlike many other Cathedrals, playing an instrument and reading music are not pre-requisite. After the initial probationary period, the Cathedral provides instrumental lessons, free of charge, in addition to the excellent day-by-day musical training in the Cathedral itself.
A choristership is a unique and marvellous opportunity, and if you think you have a boy or girl in your family or circle of friends who is in any way interested and has the necessary abilities, why not complete an application form and give him/her the chance of a lifetime?

The Audition Procedure
The audition to become a Cathedral Chorister is in no way a daunting prospect. All we ask is that you sing the first verse of the well-known Christmas carol "Once in Royal David’s City" and a few scales, along with some reading, musical and intelligence tests.
