Group Visits

Since February half term 2007, the choice of group packages increased with the opening of a new attraction, The Great Space, increased catering capacity, improved toilet facilities and disabled access. Free guided tours are still available, but prior booking is very much recommended.

So why The Great Space? John Betjamin famously remarked that the Cathedral as “one of the great buildings of the twentieth century”, demonstrating “the art of enclosing space”. And of course, the architect himself in designing a building of such scale implored us "Don't look at my arches, look at my spaces."

Visitors are now offered a new way of enjoying this great space by viewing a new high-definition film which includes a 'fly-through' tour of the main body of the Cathedral.

 

Following on from the film, continue on a tour round the Cathedral with an audio headset (available in child and adult versions) that includes stories about people, along with facts about architecture, history and faith. There are interactive stations, showcases of artefacts, and a music experience on the Nave Bridge, especially recorded by our own organist and choir for a sound and view that will live long in your memory.
