FAQs

What does it cost?

Inevitably, with the range of events and services we can provide the tariff sheet at the back of this brochure must only be used as a guideline. Please ask us to quote for your event without obligation.

What furniture and equipment does the Cathedral have?

Included in our hire prices are standard equipment and furniture such as seats, limited numbers of round and trestle tables, display panels, lecterns and PA system. Chargeable are items such as staging, projection, screen and printing of programmes or service sheets. We can also assist with bringing in a range of event services such as enhanced PA and audio-visual systems, recording, toastmaster and flowers.

When is the Cathedral available?

The times of hire are flexible but usually set between 7am and 11pm with vacation of the building by midnight.

Is visitor parking possible ?

Yes. Limited visitor parking is available in the cathedral grounds. We will organise charging for car parking according to the requirements of the event. Organisers can opt for guests to pay the usual fee through the ‘pay on entry’ system. However, a specially arranged level of fees per day per vehicle for organisers and/or direct participants in an event can form part of an overall package (e.g. organisers, musicians, performers). A ’one-off’ fee may be paid in advance by any organisation wishing to give ‘free’ access to all who attend an event. In this case the barriers remain open at all times and parking is then on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Egress from the car park in the larger events can be given at both Upper Parliament Street end and Upper Duke Street to ease traffic flow.

Is there a charge for car parking for church services?

No. There is no car parking fee when an event is classified as a church service. Car park barriers will be opened up to 1 hour before commencement, dependant upon the volume of the expected congregation, and closed for security reasons approx 15 minutes after the service has started.

Are there disabled facilities?

Yes. Access to the main Cathedral space from the car park is by lift (marked overleaf). From 2007 there is an additional access ramp from the front car park, improvements to sound and our induction loop system, and improved disabled toilet facilities. We can arrange for sign language interpretation at any event or tour.

Can the Cathedral provide catering?

Yes. In the main Cathedral space our catering team offers a comprehensive range of services from tea and coffee and interval drinks and snacks to canapés and champagne receptions. The Refectory restaurant is famous for its home-cooked food, joined in 2007 by the ‘lighter bite’ offer in the Mezzanine Café Bar. Please also see our examples of menus in the Western Rooms – all available to be teamed up with events and tours.

Is the Cathedral licensed?

Yes. The areas we can sell alcoholic beverages are the Western Rooms functions suite, the Refectory, the Cathedral Shop and the new Café Bar on the Mezzanine floor. We can serve, but not sell, wine on the main Cathedral floor, the Well and the Lady Chapel.
