Here at the cathedral we encourage wrestling with difficult questions and helping people think through how Christianity is best lived out in the complex reality of 21st century Britain.

The Dwelly Raven Canon

The Dwelly Raven Canon was established to help us develop our work in theological education. Originally held by Rev Dr Jeremy Duff he was replaced in September 2010 by Rev Dr Jules Gomes who will help us develop further in this area.

Rev Dr Gomes is responsible for developing the ways in which the Cathedral plays it full part in enabling people to think safely about the most difficult issues of life, and to engage with Christian and other approaches. He is in a Canon's post that seeks to build bridges with Liverpool Hope University. Dr Gomes will be seconded by the Cathedral to teach theology at Liverpool Hope University.

Breakfast with the Bible

Begining with Genesis and progressing steadily though each book Canon Dr Jules Gomes is leading an in depth bible study that includes:

  • Cutting edge biblical scholarship
  • Practical application to daily discipleship
  • Challenging insights into today’s culture

Based on the Hebrew and Greek texts each session takes place in the Lady Chapel before the main Sunday service.
Breakfast with the Bible is supported by a range of materials on our website.

Cathedral School of Theology

In partnership with St Mellitus College, Liverpool Cathedral established an accessible School of Theology.  This aims to resource the ministry of the local church throughour Merseyside - helping ordinary Christians get to grips with the Bible and the church.

Liverpool Cathedral is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
All staff and volunteers share this commitment.
