Take a look through the timetable below to plan your visit as viewing times will vary while Gaia is in place.

#EarthArtwork

Gaia, meaning the personification of the earth, is a huge, seven-metre replica of the earth created by renowned artist Luke Jerram.

One of the key pieces in the Changing Tides creative programme, Gaia features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the earth's surface and is an opportunity to see our planet (to scale) floating above your head in Liverpool Cathedral.

The 3D installation will rotate once every four minutes, 360 times faster than our real planet. During certain times of the day, you’ll be able to experience Gaia with a specially made surround sound composition by BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones.

You can see the artwork, which is part of the River Festival 2019, for free at Liverpool Cathedral from Saturday 25 May - Sunday 23 June. Take a look through the timetable below to plan your visit as viewing times will vary while Gaia is in place.

The Cathedral, or parts of it, may need to close or only offer restricted access for a service, special event or day-to-day maintenance. We have tried to minimise these periods as much as we can, as we know that people travel long distances to visit us.

During your visit experience staggering 360˚ views, stretching west, from Mount Snowdon and as far north as the Blackpool Tower when you take a trip up Liverpool Cathedral Tower. (Charges apply).

Want something to remember your visit by? Pick up a souvenir or a book from our award-winning shop.

Feeling thirsty or a bit peckish? Enjoy refreshments in our café and restaurant.

Occasionally the Cathedral, or parts of it, may need to close or only offer restricted access for a service, special event or day-to-day maintenance. We try to minimise these periods as much as we can, as we know that people travel long distances to visit us.

Please check for last minute changes prior to your visit as some events, such as funerals, are only arranged at short notice.

Gaia forms part of the ‘Changing Tides’ creative programme celebrating the port of Liverpool as an arrival and departure base for exemplary culture, music, food and wine from all over the earth.

It has been created in partnership with the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), Bluedot and the UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres. You can find out more about Gaia here
