Open evening where girls can audition to be part of our world-renowned professional choir.
We’re sure you’ll understand that as a place of encounter, we want Liverpool Cathedral to be a safe place for our visitors, worshippers, staff and volunteers. So in light of the Government guidance and after careful consideration, we've postponed this audition session We're really sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. If you booked a place for your child our Music Team will be in touch with you later in the year with a new date and time. Thank you for patience and understanding.
We look forward to welcoming you in the not too distant future.
We're inviting girls (ages 8-11) and their families to come and hear the Cathedral Choir sing the service of evensong. This will be followed by a brief talk from the Director of Music and then auditions.
Auditions last around 5 minutes each. We ask that girls come prepared to sing a song or hymn of their choice. We are not necessarily looking for all-round polished musical excellence at this stage. More the ability to sing in key, confidence in reading and communicating, a polite manner and a general love of music.
Those who are successful at the audition will start as probationers in September. We have 10 spaces available for new recruits. There are also spaces available in our Cathedral Junior Choir.
The choir of Liverpool Cathedral has been singing for more than a century. It follows in the footsteps of a rich choral tradition in this country spanning more than 1,000 years.
Our Girls' Choir is 24 strong and meets to rehearse and lead the music at liturgies several times a week during term-time.
During their time in the choir, our girls: learn to read music; receive one on one vocal tuition; learn to read and sing in other languages; get up to £125 per term towards the cost of learning an instrument; go on foreign choir tours (which in the past 6 years have included New York City and Washington DC, Texas, Malta, Hannover (Germany), and Lisbon.
