Catch up on the latest news from Liverpool Cathedral for Sunday, 6th December 2020.
Welcome from Dean Sue
Welcome to the Cathedral E-news as we approach the second Sunday of Advent. As you read this we will be looking forward to Sunday Worship in the Cathedral. We continue to hope and pray that we will be able to worship together and enjoy some of our favourite services. Please remember to book for these services through Liverpool Cathedral Eventbrite.
As we prepare to light our second Advent candle, on the Advent wreath I invite you to pause for a moment and to think about how you are preparing to receive Christ.
Purify our hearts and minds,
That when your Son Jesus Christ comes again as judge and Saviour
We may be ready to receive him,
Who is our Lord and our God. Amen
Canon Myles’ Retirement
Canon Myles will retire from the Cathedral in his current role in January. We have organised a service to mark his retirement as Canon Precentor and in the same service to launch him as Cathedral Chaplain. The date of the service is January 10. We will also hold a diocesan service later in the year to give thanks to Myles for his ministry in the Diocese and in the Cathedral.
If you would like to contribute to Myles’ retirement gift then please do put your donation in an envelope and mark it Myles’ retirement and pop it into one of the donation boxes. If you prefer to contribute through internet banking then please contact Jayne Bainbridge on 0151 702 7204.

Pre-booking for Christmas services
We will be offering as many of our special Christmas services as possible, despite the current difficulties. Assuming that the national lockdown ends on 2nd December, these will be: the Nativity Service (6th), Crib and Tree service (13th), and Holly Bough services (19th and 20th), two Christmas Eve services (1.00pm and 3.30pm this year), and the usual Christmas Midnight and Christmas Day services. There will be no Christmas Sequence this year.
Please note: seating capacities for all of these services will be dramatically reduced this year in order to comply with Covid-19 measures. To attend any of our special services you will need to pre-book via EventBrite please.
Tickets on EventBrite will be made available 16 days before each of the services.
The Big Give Christmas Campaign – Double your Donation and Help Us Raise £2,500
Here at Liverpool Cathedral we are taking part in The Big Give Christmas Campaign from 1st December until the 8th of December. During this time any donations made up to the total value of £1,250 will be doubled very generously by Bartletts Solicitors which would be a fantastic boost of £2,500 for the cathedral.
I was really proud to be the first donation to the campaign this year. My donation of £25 ended up generating £56.25 once it was matched and had included Gift Aid.
We know that so many of our congregation miss coming to the Cathedral and this is a fantastic way to continue your support without having to physically be here.
The extra £2,500 would be a huge boost for us right now as we have been closed for only private prayer over the last few weeks and our donations from visitors has dropped significantly. We have also seen our congregational giving decrease and so now more than ever we really need your support.
If you would like to see your donation doubled please visit the weblink below to make your pledge between 12 Noon on Tuesday 1st December till 12 Noon Tuesday 8th December.
Thank you so much for your generosity it is so appreciated.
