Your chance to be part of a mass participation art project with internationally-renowned sculptor and artist Peter Walker
This year we’re hosting a new and exciting art project with internationally-renowned sculptor and artist Peter Walker. ‘Peace Doves’ is a mass participation art project culminating in the creation of a beautiful large-scale art installation that will hang from 8th to 31st May 2020 inside the Cathedral.
During this February half-term, Monday 17 February to Friday 21 February, you can join our Education Team for dove-themed family activity sessions. During which you and your children have the opportunity to write messages of hope, peace and human dignity on the paper doves provided. Each family-friendly session is free and lasts around 30 minutes. Book your place here on Eventbrite.
Over the next few months until 19th April, we’ll be asking as many people as possible to visit the Cathedral and write their messages on the paper doves. Then Peter, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors will join the thousands of doves together to create the large-scale installation above the Well ready for its official opening on the 75th anniversary of VE day on 8th May 2020.
Peter first created the ‘Peace Doves’ installation in Lichfield Cathedral between December 2018 and January 2019. Consisting of 20,000 paper doves, the artwork was suspended in the nave of the UK’s only medieval three-spired cathedral. Messages of peace were written on individual doves by children from over 70 schools from across the area.
